Members of 8-18 Media from Marquette, Michigan based in the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum and members of Y-press from a youth-driven newspaper produced by children ages 10-18 located in Indianapolis, Indiana met with Imam Elahi at the Islamic House of Wisdom. Y-Press investigates and reports on national and international topics that are printed in The Indianapolis Star (370,000 circulation) and globally they have traveled to multiple countries to cover a diverse range of issues and current events. Imam Elahi was greatly impressed by the maturity, sincerity and dedication of the young leaders of our future.
In a two hour conversation, Imam Elahi answered the young guests questions about Islam, unity of God, the concept of justice, the real meaning of jihad, the importance of outreach and dialogue, IHW and interfaith interactions, the negative perception about Islam and Muslims promoted by the politically motivated media, the power of education in the fight against ignorance, working together to protect civil rights and liberties, improvement of communication between Muslim and non-Muslim children for a better and brighter future and many other issues. The Y-Press members were so happy and appreciative of the Imam’s open, loving and fatherly meeting with the group and wished to visit IHW again the future.
